My experiences twitter in class have been troubling to say the least. First one of my classmates blocked my account, so twitter decided to block me and then I couldn't access my account for the rest of the week. Also when we did the quiz in class for some reason my account was very slow to load, so I didn't get to see the posts people were making until 30 seconds or a minute after they posted them. Maybe that was just a product of being blocked, I don't know but it still made it difficult to keep up with the class. We used the tweetdeck during the quiz which I liked a lot because it only put the stuff on their that had to do with the class, if you haven't used it yet you should. In my previous experiences with twitter I have never used it as a learning tool or something to help other people learn with. It has always been used as just another social networking site.
I definitely agree that there can be some serious issues that come along with twitter and any internet tool for that matter. The issue could have simply been the fact that there were so many computers working on the same site and on the same server at once, in my experiences that has a major role in slowing down internet speed. I would say to not give up on twitter as a great resource though; I still think it could be a helpful tool throughout your teaching career.
ReplyDelete"Just another social networking site" says it all. I didn't have the same issues that you had, but I agree with that last statement. Tweetdeck does help a great deal if and when you are having a discussion for sure. Good post.
ReplyDeleteI found twitter to be a hassle too, but I will have to check out Tweet deck!
ReplyDeleteYou're right! Tweet deck does help a lot to improve the overall experience of twitter. Although I did not have the same problems you had,I can see where you're coming from.
ReplyDeleteThat sucks that you had those issues with twitter and I understand what you mean about it running extremely slow, I and few other people in my class had that problem. It probably had to deal with so many people on the server trying to do things on the same site at the same time. This class was the first time I too used twitter in ways other than a social networking site.
ReplyDeleteSorry about your experience! That girl probably felt bad after that happened haha. Hopefully your liking for twitter grows over the semester. I'm glad that you enjoy tweetdeck, I do as well. It is better to use that when participating in Twitter chats.
ReplyDeleteI agree completely! When i found out about making a twitter for this class, you can ask Mr. Smith, I was not happy abou it! I also have issues the entire time in class that we are working on things. One differenece is that i have never used twitter for social networking and this is my first time on it so hopfully my experience goes better than yours!
